Season Wrap Up
February 6, 2024
First, I want to thank those who hunted with us for a great season. While November was about average, December was warmer than usual and waterfowl just did not show in numbers we are used to seeing. Storms with high winds and cold came in January, ducks and geese arrived in big numbers. Near mid to late January some nights I counted over 5000 ducks after sunset feeding on waste grain on the farm, it was a beautiful sight. Those hunters who booked during that period enjoyed great success with bags of 15-25 ducks each hunt. Coco retrieved close to 500 ducks this season and we lost only 4-5 birds all season. There were many days with pintail, teal and even gadwall in addition to Blacks and Mallards. Goose hunting was also good killing close to 200 geese, most of them from our second farm.
In the next 6 weeks I will be working with Biologist Mike Schummer again banding ducks at the farm. This will be the fifth year we have banded ducks and that I have fed them through the winter to ensure they are healthy when they return to the breeding grounds in the spring.
Take care and hope to see you in the blind next year!
Capt. Phil
